HDP 98 – Directed Group Study

Directed group study, on a topic or in a field not included in the department curriculum, by arrangement with a faculty member. Topics will vary from quarter to quarter. Pass/Not Pass grades only. Enrollment requires prior consent of the instructor; students must have at least thirty units completed and a minimum 3.0 GPA (exceptions are considered). Student may enroll for no more than a total of two units in one quarter. Cannot be used towards HDP major/minor  credit.

Career Development

Through this interactive, hands-on course, students are guided in exploring their interests, values, skills, personality, and how it relates to the career search. Through class lectures on career development concepts, guest speakers, practice sessions, and assignments, students will conduct research on various careers, receive professional development training, practice and gain confidence in networking and other job search strategies, Develop a career action plan

Enrollment Process--STARTING 2ND PASS

  1. Download above application for HDP 98.
  2. Complete Section I (Section II is pre-filled). Provide signature on Section II.
  3. Submit the application to the HDP Student Affairs Office (AP&M 5320) for completion of Section III. The application is subject to approval.
  4. Enrollment: once the HDP 98 application has been fully processed by HDP, students must physically take the completed form to the Registrar in order to enroll in the course.


Pre-requisites: overall 3.0 GPA, 30 units completed** 
**GPA and/or unit exceptions allowed—college approval also required.

Note: Pass/No Pass only. Not for HDP Major or Minor Credit.

General Guidelines for any HDP 98: Directed Group Study Course

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (exceptions considered--must also be approved by college).
  • Minimum 30 cumulative units completed (exceptions considered--must also be approved by college).
  • May be taken for 1 or 2 units.
  • Must be taken Pass/No Pass.
  • No HDP major or minor credit.

1 Unit Course

  • 3 hours of research/work per week.
  • Means of evaluation and exceptions vary according to faculty instructor as outlined on the 98 application.
  • Please note that some professors may require student to commit to a 2 unit course.

2 Unit Course

  • 6 hours of research/work per week.
  • Means of evaluation evaluation and exceptions vary according to faculty instructor as outlined on the 98 application.
  • Please note that some professors may require student to commit to a 1 unit course.

Research Opportunities

1 unit only

Students will connect with graduate students and faculty affiliated with the Human Development Program, explore opportunities for conducting experimental and field studies, and receive advisement regarding academic and professional preparedness for undergraduate and graduate research. The course experience will include weekly seminar meetings, guest speakers, laboratory tours, and assignments.
