Basic Information

Description of the Organization Responsibilities

The Early Childhood Education Center is a play-based preschool located on the East Campus of UCSD.  The student researcher will observe and participate in classroom activities with children, under teacher supervision. Specific responsibilities will depend on the age group of children and the teacher's instructions. The student researcher may help develop and set up projects, design and implement lesson plans, etc. Final paper may concern teaching methods, day care ethics issues, interpersonal relationships of children, etc.

Age(s) of Participants

3 months to 5 years.

Research Availability

Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.  Appointments must be made, depending on parent and teacher consent. Analysis of tapes can be done on campus (lab in CSB 217B), variable hours.

Orientation Requirement

Yes. Orientation meeting prior to first day of research to be coordinated amongst all students placed at ECEC (contact Field Research Coordinator for list of students if not provided) During the orientation students must review handbook on Center goals, rules, ethical responsibilities, appropriate language & procedures for encouraging and disciplining children, confidentiality issues, etc.

Dress Code

Type of dress should casual but neat, including closed-toed shoes.

Testing Requirements

(1) TB test

(2) Letter of Clearance from the Field Research Coordinator (Emma Chan).

Check-in procedure?

Sign-in at the office prior to proceeding to the classroom.
