Requirements for students who declared HDP major beginning Fall 2001

Applying for the Human Development Major:
Beginning in 2001, students who wish to declare the HDP major must meet pre-major requirements and apply for entrance into the HDP major. All lower-division requirements must be fullfilled before applying to the HDP major. All eight courses must be completed with a grade of C or better (no C minuses or Pass grades are accepted). The cumulative GPA for the eight lower-division courses must equal or exceed 2.75. Students must meet with an HDP advisor and obtain approval to declare the Human Development major before their senior year.

Grade Requirements for the Major:
A minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in the major is required of all students seeking the bachelor’s degree in Human Development. Students must receive a grade of C- or better in all upper-division courses counted toward fulfillment of the major requirements. All courses taken to satisfy the Program's lower- and upper-division requirements must be taken for a letter grade. HDP 1, HDP 150, HDP 181, and HDP 191 must be taken in residence.



REQUIREMENTS FOR PRE-HDP MAJORS

Students must fulfill the lower-division requirements listed below before applying for the HDP major. It is recommended that students who are completing the pre-major classes declare "Pre Human Development" in order to ensure they are included when information regarding courses and curriculum changes from the HDP department are sent to pre-majors.

The grade earned in each course must be a C or better. The GPA for these eight courses must equal or exceed 2.75.

The lower-division requirements for the major in human development are:

1. Introduction to Human Development: HDP1 0ffered only once per year, in Fall.


2. One statistics course selected from: PSYC 60, COGS 14, BIEB 100, ECON 120A, POLI 30, or MATH 11


3. One formal skills course selected from: PHIL 10, PHIL 12, LIGN 17, or 1 course from the MATH 10 or MATH 20 sequence.


4 & 5. Two biological sciences courses selected from:
ANTH 2 (formerly ANLD 2) , BILD 1, BILD 2, BILD 3, BILD 7, BILD 10, BILD 12, BILD 18, BILD 20, BILD 26, COGS 11, COGS 17, PSYC 2

6 & 7. Two social sciences courses selected from:
ANTH 1(formerly ANLD 1), ANTH 3 (formerly ANLD 3), COGN 20, COGS 1, HILD 7A, LIGN 4, LIGN 7, LIGN 8, LIGN 101, MMW 1, MMW 2, PSYC 1, PSYC 3, PSY 6, SOCL 1A, SOCL 20

8. One computer literacy course selected from: COGS 3, COGS 8, COGS 18, CSE 3, CSE 5A, CSE 11 , MAE 5.



It is recommended all other lower- division requirements be completed before taking upper divsion requirements.
